My 1st Film.

“A Family Reunion” is a short narrative documentary about my trip back to my father’s hometown in Kluang, Malaysia in 2002 for “Qing Ming” after almost 20 years of absence.  “Qing Ming” is a yearly Chinese custom where a family will gather to sweep the grave of the ancestors as an act of filial piety.  The film describes my reflections on the sacrifices and hardship my grandparents and my family had endured and my guilt of not cherishing their sacrifices.  It also talks about the issue of identity, belonging and the definition of “Home” for immigrant Chinese like my grandparents.

The film won the 1st Runner up prize for the Family Movie Magic Contest organized by Canon, Mediacorp Publishing and supported by the Ministry of Community Development & Sports of Singapore.
